Q: What is the incidence of sexual violence towards women?
A: Police recorded 62,081 sexual offences in 2005/6; of these 14,449 were rapes. 92 per cent of these were against women. On average, the Rape Crisis Federation receives 50,000 calls a year. 90 per cent of callers identified the perpetrator as male who in 75 per cent of cases was known to the victim.
